About Jiangnan University (Southern Yangtze University) Welcome to teach in Jiangnan University,the key school in Jiangsu. Southern Yangtze University (SYTU) is one of China’s key universities of “211 Project” and functions directly under the Ministry of Education. With its profound cultural origin, the roots of the university date back to the year of 1902 when its predecessor San Jiang Normal School began its first term. From then on the school developed along time as National Central University in 1928, Nanjing University in 1949, Nanjing Institute of Technology in 1952, Wuxi Institute of Light Industry in 1958, Wuxi University of Light Industry in 1995, and Southern Yangtze University in 2001. More than a hundred years of development has made SYTU a famous comprehensive university with profound disciplines covering engineering, science, literature, economics, management, law, agriculture and education. Now there are 18900 undergraduates, 3500 graduate students and 350 international students studying in the campus. The university consists of 18 schools and departments offering 60 specialties for undergraduate studies. It is entitled to confer master degrees in 59 programs, and doctoral degrees in 21 programs. Cooperated with local government, the University Science Park at provincial level functions the transfer of research results into industrial production. The university has for long been active in international exchange and cooperation. It accepted international students since 1960s. Dozens of foreign scientists invited as acting professors and various international conferences were held each year. SYTU has established close relationships with 50 well known oversea universities, and became one of the most important academic exchange platforms in the field of light industry, food science &technology, textile technology and industrial design as well. The newly constructed university campus covering 208 hectares is located by the Lake of Taihu, a national scenery resort in the south of Wuxi. It was designed and built with the concept of “Eco-campus”, landscaped with beautiful greens, elegant gardens, unique bridges and tranquil streams.
