Jiangsu No. 1 Midlde School is Founded in 1919.Nantong First Middle School of Jiangsu Province is one of the provincial key middle schools. She was ranked as a state demonstration ordinary high school in 1997 and had kept the honor as a provincial civilized unit for 16 years ever since 1985. For three times in succession, she has been chosen as a model school of the provincial level. The year of 1999 saw her among the national advanced units in the construction of moral civilization, and she has also been honored as the national advanced unit in the efforts for the popularization of physical education, the national advanced school in physical education and health care, and one of the first experimental schools for modern educational technology. The whole of NFMSJS covers an area of 74 mu(1,110,000 ha.)with 40,000 square meters for the construction. The campus consists of four modernized teaching buildings, a multifunction laboratory building, two students' boarding buildings of the first class in the city, a newly built well equipped gymnasiums, and a playground with a 300-meter-round plastic track. Both the school library and laboratory are ranked among the top ones in the province. NFMSJS has also taken the lead in the construction of the school Lan system, which has made available the students' surfing on the net during the breaks and the application of OEH multimedia with the aid of the school net system in the classroom teaching all over the campus. The staff of NFMSJS number more than 300 in charge of 76 classes with a students' population up to over 3, 000.
