Part Eight:

There is / There are /  Some / any

Example1: There is / There are

 

Positive

There is (There’s) a table in the dining room

There are two sofas in the living room

Negative

There isn’t a table in the dining room

There aren’t two sofas in the living room

Exercise 1:

Now it’s your turn

Fill in the blank:

-   …… ‘s a picture in the dining room.

-   ……… isn’t a laptop in the bed room

-   There …..three a CDs in the  living room

-   ………. Aren’t a magazines in the kitchen

 

Example2: Some/any

We use some in positive sentences like:

-          There are some CDs.

-          There are some books in the living room

 

We use any in the question and negative sentences like:

-          Does she have any books?

-          There aren’t any CDs

 

Exercise 2: Some/Any

Now it’s your turn

Fill in the blank:

-    Is there  …….. table in the dining room?

-    There are ……………. CDs in the  living room.

-    There aren’t …………….. magazines in the  kitchen.

-    Is  there ….. cooker in the kitchen?

-    There aren’t …… any books in the bed room.

-    Does he have …….. pictures in the dining room.

      By  answering these sentences you can improve your English grammar (some and any). It is a good idea to practice this exercise and then try it with your own questions, You can also try to do this exercise with a friend or a partner and practice some and any together
